The importance of the jockey in winning
a race cannot be understated. Knowing precisely when
to hold a horse back and when to let it run free can
make the difference between keeping the right pace for
a fast finish and burning a horse out.
You should therefore look not only at a jockey’s
overall experience and success record, but also at the
knowledge he or she has of that particular horse or
other horses from the same stable.
