Taking a price – Accepting a bet with the show price as opposed to the starting price.

Tattersall's - The enclosure next in status to Members'. Those choosing this enclosure have access to the main betting area (the Ring) and the paddock.

Tattersall’s committee – Administrative body empowered to adjudicate over disputes involving horse-racing carried out under Jockey Club rules.

Through-the-card – Where there is a bet on every race on a racecard.

Tic-tac - A means of signalling with the arms (and usually white gloves). Used by bookmakers' agents to denote price changes

Timeform - Popular handicapping service.

Tipster – Someone who seeks to predict the outcome of a race.

Tissue odds – A betting forecast used by bookmakers, which has been compiled by a form expert.

Tote (Nanny) – An organisation set up after an Act of Parliament in 1928, that has three sections: pool betting on every racecourse in Britain, a credit betting division and a bookmakers division with many on and off-course betting shops.

Tote rigging - Inflated returns are achieved by investing money on unwanted horses on the course - which goes into the Tote pool - while sizeable investments are made away from the course on the desired animals. The 'away' money does not normally find its way into the Tote pool.

Tout – A person who spies on racehorses in training in order to gain insider information as to current form, information which can then be sold on for profit.

Treble - A multiple bet. Thus in a win treble all three horses must win for the bet to succeed. In an each-way or place treble all three horses must be placed to draw the place treble return.

Tricast – A bet where the punter predicts three runners to finish first, second and third in the correct order.

Triple Crown – The English Triple Crown is the 2000 Guineas, the Derby and the St Leger.

Turn of foot – A horse’s speed or acceleration capability.
