Each way – To stake equal amounts on both win and place in a single bet.

Early price – The odds in advance of the start of a race, as opposed to the starting price.

EBF – European Breeders’ Fund, used for prize money and veterinary research, amongst other things.

Edge – The bookmaker’s mathematical advantage.

Entire – A male horse that has not been castrated.

Entries – Horses are entered into most races five days beforehand, though entries for the most important races close early, possibly weeks or months before the event.

Equally-divided – Where a double, treble or other accumulator bets split the winnings into two equal parts and place half on a win and half on a place for each subsequent leg.

Even break - Get away level with the others.

Even money (Evens) – Where an equal amount is laid by the bookmaker to the amount placed by the bettor. In other words, you would win £1 for £1 staked (as well as getting your stake back).
